dinner at Gibbet Hill

An old high school classmate of mine invited me to dinner with her family, despite us not being as close as students.

I was already nervous… but as soon as the chatter and drinks flowed along, I was able to witness such pure, warm joy among family members. Mom was constantly apologizing for the silliness. Dad was easygoing while taking shots from both his daughters. Auntie had the sweetest and understanding personality coming from a complete stranger. Anabelle and Christine each so beautiful in their own styles.

It’s been a complete novelty these past few years in my early 20s where I discover families with a different dynamic than mine. Christine’s is not only functional but understanding and funny and members 100% transparent with each other. I whispered to Christine, “I can’t actually hear your dad..” To which she said straight to Robert, “She can’t hear you. Speak up.” I found this moment so sharp and a hint at the banter to come later in the night.

Happy 17th Anabelle. Expect a Steam gift soon and I hope the cake was delicious!
